The Branch Embroidery Pattern

The Branch Embroidery Pattern

Sometimes embroidery can keep the mind busy with colour changes, varying stitches and strand numbers. On a full project the mind is a flurry of creativity and productivity. But sometimes what I need is not a busy creative experience, but a space to switch off. A simple flow that my hands can begin to follow rhythmically, gifting my brain space to just ponder.

The Branch is one of those spaces. This beginner friendly embroidery pattern is built from just two simple stitches and designed to create a slow, rhythmic stitching experience.

The Branch is the first design in The Eden Collection, a series of botanical embroidery patterns focused on calm, meditative stitching. (Explore the Eden Collection here).

A Pattern for All

The Branch embroidery pattern is a substantial design, yet it uses just two stitches: stem stitch and satin stitch. This makes it ideal for beginners while still offering depth and elegance for experienced stitchers.

The pattern is adaptable. Flower buds can be omitted for a more minimalist feel, or the motif can be repeated to suit longer projects such as a table runner. For my first version of The Branch, I repeated the pattern twice around a project bag I was making for my daughter to hold her knitting and supplies. The added length gave it a beautiful elegance.

The Story Behind the Design

The creation of The Branch was equally organic.

I am early in my designing journey, but already I see rhythms emerging. Some ideas arrive quickly yet take time to hone in thread what I envision. Others seem to grow into what they were always meant to be, without feeling like I had much to do with it at all.

The Branch arrived in such a fashion. It felt like a gift… to stitch just when I needed it.

Stitching for the Heart

My hope is that this pattern offers a little piece of stitching calm. It is at the core, nurturing for the soul. I pray it soothes your heart as it did mine.
